Preparing the vehicle to be used is very important as it determine the difference between a memorable road trip and a frustrated outing. It would be a let down for the vehicle to breakdown. Vehicles chosen for such tasks need to be serviced in advance and spare wheels carried just in case of a flat tire. Tires need to be properly inflated and fluid levels are adequate. For battery’s that are over three years old it is advisable to have a spare battery. Brakes must be checked to ensure that they are in good condition. Start your road trip at Olympic National Park, which is located at the northwest border of the United States. From there you will be able to catch glimpses of the ocean all the way to the southern border between the USA and Mexico. This road trip offers a diverse landscape with 1,500 mile stretch of beautiful scenery; from a number of amazing parks to well-preserved rain forests, and even barren landscapes that can almost be considered deserts. You name it, the Pacific Coast is nearly certain to have it. If you have your kids with you on a family trip, they might be able to catch glimpses of wildlife like such as gray whales, mountain lions, and condors.

After passing numerous fishing and logging villages, in Washington, head south and you will get to the mouth of Columbia River. The road will then lead you to the rustic and, for the most part, tranquil Oregon Coastline. Your Pacific Coast road trip route can include stopovers in many great locations. You will be greeted with a few communities with varying levels “countryside feel” to them, and you can choose from the recreational activities available for road warriors like you. However, if you’re more inclined to venture off-the-beaten-track, then you should not miss what is known as the Avenue of the Giants. This is a series of redwood forests that line Northern California.

Finally, don’t forget to check out southern California. Feast your eyes on the lush greenery of palm trees – and see surfers and beach bodies almost everywhere you turn. The town of Encinitas, for example, has great shops and restaurants. Just outside the town make sure not to miss the Cardiff by the Sea. It has a number of fine but expensive restaurants where you can enjoy your meal with a great backdrop of the sea. For surf fanatics, Solana Beach, which has a road famously known as Old Highway 101, and offers many surf shops. La Jolla, meanwhile, is a good place to stop if you’re more of a scuba diver. The Children’s Pool is highly recommended to see seals along the shores and ground squirrels at the cliff side.

Plan a Pacific Coast road trip that has a bit of history in it too. You will have your pick from Spanish colonial mansions, or the English and Russian fur-trading outposts.

Lastly, remember that your Pacific Coast road trip has some amazing cities along the way, that are all worthy if you have the time. Seattle, LA, and San Diego all have great restaurants, nightlife, museums and more. If you like to take your time on the road, there are plenty of lodges and boutique hotels all along the coastline, offering cozy bed & breakfast and magical moments to remember.

Unfortunately, there are numerous occasions when you have no control over a lot of things. For example you planned a nice road trip to wonderful Australia with two of your friends and suddenly they cannot take time away from work or have other problems to take care of. The only solution you have in this kind of situation is to go by yourself. However, road tripping on your own is hard and boring. The sights may be amazing and the food great, the music may be wonderful and the atmosphere magical, but if you have no friends, family or loved one to share this with, then your road trip is not even half as good as it could have been.

Fortunately for you, there is another solution. If something happens and there is a big chance your road trip to Australia may be ruined or you have no one to go on a trip with, use carpool. This is a very advantageous system for you. Whether you are the one offering the ride or you are in need of a ride, carpool is your answer. You planned a road trip with your friends and all of the sudden they cancel on you. You already took time off from work so it would be a shame to waste it by staying at home, so what are your options? Well, there is option number one, to start making phone calls to see if any of your other friends is interested in going. This will probably take a lot of time and not have the expected outcome. Option number two is to take a member of your family with you, but they probably already have plans. So, we get down to option number three which is carpool. This is your best option and probably the most interesting one as well.

There are different sites where you can look for carpools or post an ad for a carpool. These sites are very easy to use and they give very good results. You only have to post your ad and you will surely receive calls from people who have always wanted to make that road trip to Australia, but they had no means of transportation. Moreover, besides the fact that you will find you road trip partner, you will also have the opportunity to make new friends.

Sometimes things just do not go according to plan and then you can abandon the plan or look for a convenient solution. If you are in need of a road trip buddy to share gas, driving or just to have a laugh with and enjoy the trip, then carpool is an excellent choice. You get to Australia like you have planned and another person gets to make the trip he or she has dreamed of.

This scenic road trip closely follows the Appalachian Trail, with many spots where trail and road cross paths. This allows you to immerse yourself in the deep woods with a daily hike but also enjoy nature’s colors unfurling before you as you cruise along the two-lane highway. That’s not to say your trip itinerary will include nothing but trees and trails. You’re passing through 14 historically significant states so you’ll come upon many cultural places like quaint villages, country stores, historical museums and memorials to add to your road trip planner.

Even though the Appalachian Trail runs through 14 states, this blog will include details on the first 6 of them (not including Maine): New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania. This leaves New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia for another blog. Remember, in order to follow the Appalachian Trail, you’ll be meandering through the states, so even though your initial road trip planning might indicate a 1200-mile route, you’ll actually be driving an additional 200 miles on this road trip.

IN NEW YORK: We’re only going to include the Appalachian Trail segment in this road trip planner and keep the “other” New York for another trip (unless you really can’t help yourself & decide to spend a few days in New York City…it’s your vacation after all :>). Drive along US 6 to Highway 7, touching the southeastern part of New York and exiting through Port Jervis.

BEST TIME TO VISIT: An excellent time to plan a road trip to this region is during the Fall because the red, orange and brown of the landscape will remind you of Fall Colors. Late Spring is also nice as is the summer if you have a tolerance for dry heat and have an ample supply of bottled water.

WHAT STATES MEET WHERE? Southwest Colorado, Northwest New Mexico, Northeast Arizona and Southeast Utah. There’s even a Four Corners Monument to mark the spot. Hand, hand, foot, foot & you’re officially in four states at once.

WHAT KIND OF TERRAIN CAN I EXPECT TO FIND? The Four Corners is actually part of the Grand Circle (which includes the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion Canyon National Park, Capitol Reef, Natural Bridges, Hovenweep, Arches National Park). What you’ll find is plains stretching into the horizon in golden hues. And russet plateaus jutting up out of the earth in chaotic yet curiously patterned ways. This terrain is ancient; a land of Native Americans, a western frontier set in a rough and tumble landscape.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES CAN I DO THERE? This region offers such variety that it makes a great trip for families, couples, or a group of friends so you’ll have no trouble filling your Road Trip Planner with activities suited to your age and activity level. Explore places like archaeological digs, cliff dwellings, historic railroads, and western towns. Two of the corners are in the Navajo Nation and the Ute Mountain Indian Reservation. You’ll also find an abundance of National Parks in this region.

HIGHLIGHTS IN SOUTHWEST COLORADO: Cortez is considered the archaeological center of America and is the near the Mesa Verde National Park. It’s the first national park set aside to preserve the works of people, in this case, the ancient Puebloans and its history spans 14 centuries. FESTIVALS: Check out the festivals happening year round in this region like the Mesa Verde Country Food, Wine & Art Festival, the 9th Annual Mesa Verde Country Indian Arts & Culture Festival, or the Ute Mountain-Mesa Verde Birding Festival.

HIGHLIGHTS IN NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO: A different Southwest flavor can be found in New Mexico. Sparsely populated with a strong blend of Spanish, Mexican and Native American cultures, some parts of New Mexico may very well give you a sense of what the pioneers saw when they first cast their eyes over this mountain-desert land. Farmington is the closest city to the Four Corners but I’d add Santa Fe and Albuquerque to your road trip planner to enjoy the different ambiences found here. BONUS ACTIVITY: Take a ride on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway, the world’s longest aerial tramway and glide above deep canyons and over breathtaking terrain for a unique vantage point.

HIGHLIGHTS IN NORTHEAST ARIZONA: For a deep Navajo experience, add Monument Valley to your road trip planner. Explore the rock formations, buttes, mesas and canyons in this tranquil valley. Some of these spires pierce the sky like needles (excellent photo op). BONUS SIDE-TRIPS: Further west, but well worth the 3 ½ hour drive is Lake Powell, a popular swimming/boating destination. And from there, you’re only 2 ½ hours away from viewing the Grand Canyon’s south rim, a spectacular natural wonder.

HIGHLIGHTS IN SOUTHEAST UTAH: Here’s where you’ll find the “Old West”. Bandits, cattle rustlers, outlaws, and the lawmen who tracked them down to justice; all called this part of Utah their home. Add Moab to your road trip planner for a real Wild West experience at the Bar-M Chuckwagon Live Western Show, which includes the Bar-M Village, a dinner show complete with a cowboy supper.
