When you think of the country of El Salvador several things seem to come to mind if your know a little history on that portion of the world. War, poverty, corruption, & surfing are the biggest headlines that usually make up El Salvador. El Salvador does have its own nasty history what country doesn’t I want to introduce you to a side of El Salvador that is rarely seen. It is one of the smallest countries in Central America and a lot of the time it is over looked because of its reputation. But, you are missing out on one of the greatest countries in all of Central America. Maybe I’m biased? maybe, after I lived there for a short period of time I have come to love it. The beaches The beaches are by far the largest tourist attraction in El Salvador. The beaches are flush with sand and the water is as blue as the eye can see. At night as the sun goes down in the west over the pacific you see a fantastic sunset full of reds, oranges and bright yellows. El Salvador has over 200 miles of sunlight beaches for you to discover and explore. If you’re a surfer even better one of the top ten surfing destinations in the world is this little countries little coastline. Since the majority of locals do not see many tourists here they treat you more like friends then tourist. The culture and food you discover is as traditional as the houses you pass. l briefly mention here only 2 of my Favorite Cities in El Salvador..We will start with.. La Libertad: This little city is known for two things in particular. One of them is small locally manufactured figurines they are small collectables made to look like traditional people or animals and inside if you open them up are even smaller people. They are really neat and the attention to detail they provide is fantastic. It also is close by to one of the best surfing beaches with the right high tide and good surf you would not leave until sunset with as much fun as you can have out there. La Costa del Sol: The next city that tops my list of favorite places in El Salvador is La Coast del Sol., it is digit of the coastal areas that is substantially developed for tourists. La Costa del Sol is home to the estuary of Jaltepeque, a flush bio-diverse eco system that hold may rare and protected species that are native to the area. Kayaking through the estuary and mangroves is an awesome experience, being able to spot Spider Monkeys and butterfly species, and even some northern migratory birds – a great adventure! But there’s more too, added beach on the west side of the country is great for swim and diving J Archaeological ruins For those interested in history, a visit to the archeological ruins would be a once in a lifetime experience. Discover the Corbieres Region
Firstly, where is this area? It is based in the Languedoc, south of France. It incorporates the Aude and the Pyrenees Orientales departments of the Languedoc. It is best known for its wines, but there is so much more to discover. A holiday in the Corbières is essentially about the pleasures of wandering through almost deserted countryside (four inhabitants per square kilometer makes it one of the emptier parts of France), under a sun, which shines for 300 days of the year. You could spend every day on the beach, swimming, boating, or windsurfing, but it would be a shame because there is much to discover in the hinterland. Food and wine in the Languedoc also play a big part in the enjoyment of visiting the Languedoc. The region also has well-preserved medieval abbeys — the most notable being at Fontfroide and Lagrasse There are also some fine examples of Romanesque architecture, often to be seen in the tiniest village churches. It is the most characteristic feature of the region- namely the ruins of the Cathar castles. The most impressive are undoubtably Quéribus and Peyrepertuse. For the nature lover, the Corbières are a treasure trove; there are said to be 75 different species of orchids here, plus the typical vegetation and wildlife of the garrigue. There is a museum of flora and fauna at Gasparets and if you speak French well enough, you may be able to join a guided tour from Lezignan, Narbonne or Lagrasse . The best season for this is spring and early summer (May-June), when there is a profusion of wild flowers, and it is not yet too hot for walking. For anyone with reasonable French we recommend a book called Les Plus Belles Balades dans l’Aude by Patrick Valette and Jacques Drelon, published by the Office National des Forêts (try tourist offices or local bookshops). It contains 40 walks of varying length and difficulty, most of them off the beaten track, all clearly explained and with plenty of supplementary information about plants, wildlife, and local curiosities. During the summer (July and August) , when the French and France seem all to be on holiday, there is a profusion of local festivities and animations, many of them free. Leather-clad rock bands playing seventies and eighties hits complete with massive sound systems and laser shows are very popular. However there are also folk and jazz concerts, outdoor theatre, and impressive son et lumière presentations, notably in Carcassonne (one of the most important Cathar castles in France) and at the four Châteaux de Lastours. If your visit coincides with the 14th of July (Bastille Day — a national holiday in France) many towns have firework displays, some more impressive than others. The one in Carcassonne is said to be second only to Paris in scale and splendour, and attracts up to 100,000 people. Gruissan, a small fishing village on the coast, is also developing an increasing reputation for its display, involving a sea battle [...]
